Experience

Many go into business directly after finishing a course. Some gain work experience through employment, learning on the job and honing bench skills, manufacturing knowledge and commercial know-how before setting up in business.

Qualification Requirements

You need no formal qualifications – many designer makers are self-taught – but training courses are useful for learning and understanding best practice.

You might have taken jewellery design and making level 3, diploma, HND or a degree, maybe even a master’s. It’s also sensible to take a business set-up course, professional development training or research how to set up your business before taking the plunge.
