As a casting specialist, you are part of an age-old process in jewellery manufacturing, one that is evolving to adopt innovative state-of-the-art equipment and technology.

In 3D printing and rapid prototyping, you reproduce a master pattern for batch or mass production, also calling on processes like lost wax, centrifugal, vacuum, investment, die and evaporative casting. Casting also involves vulcanising to create moulds from metal masters, resin, wax and physical objects.

To deliver to customers and workshops on time, you work as part of a team to wax, invest and prep products ready for burnout:

Perform the investment process
Follow the de-vesting process
Carry out burn outs
Understand the properties of silver, gold or platinum alloys
Perform mould cutting and preparation

Qualification Requirements

Experience

Several years of retail experience are usually necessary, with a portion of that experience specifically in a managerial role. Prior experience in the jewellery or luxury goods industry is often preferred.

Career Progression

From casting assistant to technician, you progress to senior caster through to casting manager.
As you deepen your understanding of casting, you can move across to 3D printing and rapid prototyping.

Qualification Requirements

You have a technical background either with a specific apprenticeship, technical training or HND.
