Store Owner
As a gallery or store owner with a business registered under your name, you are a company director registered with Companies House. As a business owner, you are entrepreneurial and understand business and running a business. You have experience in the retail environment and understand the retail business model of pricing and wholesale. You also understand your market and/or the type of clientele you wish to attract.
As the business owner of a gallery or shop/store, you have overall responsibility for the profitability of that business, employing and managing staff, understanding the finances and paying the bills, as well as promoting the business.

Experience
Generally, people who start a business from scratch and open a gallery or shop/store have previous experience in retail. It is quite likely you have a background and work experience in retail sales before starting up on your own.
Work experience or employment history in sales is crucial, and experience in selling products in the luxury space is essential.
Knowledge
You need to understand the retail business model of buying (and/or making) and selling, that includes running a retail outlet with all the associated costs of a small bricks and mortar business.
You may wish to incorporate an e-commerce outlet to maximise sales potential.
