Chief Executive Officer
As chief executive officer (CEO) or owner of an organisation or limited company, you have ultimate responsibility for that entity, and your name is registered with Companies House as the company director. Whatever the business’s size, your legal responsibility is the same, and you are legally required to act in the company’s best interest.
You are responsible for employing and managing staff, understanding finances, paying the bills, promoting the business and maintaining its profitability.
As a CEO / business owner, you are entrepreneurial and understand the mechanisms of running a business. You have experience in the retail environment, supply chains and understand the retail business model of pricing as well as wholesale, and the market you are servicing or the type of clientele you wish to attract.

Experience
Most people who start a business from scratch have experience in that business’s sector – sayretail, wholesale or manufacturing. It’s likely you have experience in retail before starting up your own jewellery business.
An employment history in sales is crucial as is experience in selling luxury products.
Knowledge
You need to understand the retail business model of buying (and / or making) and selling as well as how to run a retail outlet, with all the associated costs of a small bricks and mortar business. Ideally, you also know how to create and run an e-commerce outlet to maximise sales.
